What Does It Mean To Be Human?

"What does it mean to be human? Centuries worth of scientific thought, artistic tradition and spiritual practice have attempted to answer this most fundamental question about our existence. And yet the diversity of views and opinions is so grand it has made that answer remarkably elusive. While we don’t necessarily believe such an “answer” — singular and conclusive by definition — even exists, today we make an effort to understand the wholeness of a human being without compartmentalizing humanity into siloed views of the brain, emotion, morality and so forth. So we look at this complex issue from three separate angles — evolutionary biology, philosophy and neuroscience — hoping weave together a somewhat more holistic understanding of the whole."

5 Kids Games Hollywood Hasn't Ruined (Yet)

"I have fond memories of my childhood, and yet, somehow the movie studios are just a little fonder. They enjoy reminiscing with me about the things I loved as a boy and even the things I didn't care for but which they insist I loved anyway. In fact, it's rare to see a movie released now that isn't based on a book, comic, cartoon or a show from my adolescence. This personalization of film is flattering but the studios and I both know that a friendship based on memories can't last. Already they are out of good ideas and shamelessly grasping for any last nugget of nostalgia; Battleship the movie is due out in 2012, Candy Land is in development, as is Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, and even the Magic Eight Ball is getting 90 minutes worth of whatever they intend to use in place of plot."

"The most creative art can come from the most unexpected places -- in this case, a toy. A number of contemporary artists proves that the limitations of an Etch A Sketch can foster incredible, detailed pop art, some of which have been sold for upwards of $10,000 and attracted the attention of U.S. presidents."
